Stausee Lipno

The Lipno Dam, sometimes called South Bohemian sea, is the largest water area in the Czech Republic. Between 1925 – 1959, the 25 meters high dam was built near the village Lipno nad Vltavou to prevent the area from floods. Major part of the dam is also a part of National park Šumava and there is no doubt that it was the beautiful natural surroundings to make Lipno one of the most popular tourist attractions. In the summer, you can enjoy fishing, water sports, yachting or just relaxing on the beach, in the winter there is an ice skating ring ready for you, you can go skiing or just relax in the Aquapark in Lipno nad Vltavou. Due to the status of a national park, there are multiple traffic restrictions and the whole area is therefore full of bike trails. This is also why a growing number of tourists from not only the Czech Republic are attracted to this bikers‘ paradise.
